Your struggles are windows of opportunity

Caught in our survival mode, we become shortsighted. We fight with our last ounce of energy to win a battle that would take us away from our greater purpose.

There are times in our lives when nothing seems to work, no matter the effort.

Whether in healing from a condition, in sorting our relationships or in business, these moments are our helpers, our message that we are not on the right path.

Caught in our survival mode, we become shortsighted. We fight with our last ounce of energy to win a battle that would take us away from our greater purpose.

Despite the clear signs, we persist in making happen something that was clearly not in our best interest.

Why? Because from our limited perception, we had an idea about how things should be, how we want life to be, and we ignore our inner map and its outer signposts.

We fight to patch a relationship that never worked; we fight to make a living in a job that is dehumanising us; we fight to change our appearances in the hope that that will improve our odds, or at least how we feel.

Truth is, we fight against circumstances that will set us free.

We kill the messenger that brought us the key to our prison cell because it wasn’t dressed how we imagined, it didn’t come from the person, place, situation that we expected. And then we set ourselves for another cycle of struggle and pain, because these windows of opportunity come in long cycles, further and further apart.

Persistence, like all human traits, is only as good as the motive behind it. If the goal is comfort at the cost of growth and evolution, it will be a weakness and no longer a quality.

To make it simple, ask yourself: “Does this situation make me a better person? Is my heart happy with the person I become in this process?” If the answer is “yes”, then your persistence will take you to your greater self, if not, it will take you the opposite way.

In the end, even the universe thinks like us: “You can lead a horse to the water, but you can’t make it drink.”

The choice is always ours. We can choose to persist in the same errors that brought us the results we want to change, or take the message and use these windows of opportunity to grow and expand.

All it takes is a moment of presence.
